President Claudia Sheinbaum announced that in July the suburban train connecting the Buenavista station in downtown Mexico City with the Felipe Ángeles International Airport (AIFA) will be inaugurated. After an extensive construction period, the project is in an advanced stage, and the necessary resources are available to complete it.
Sheinbaum revealed that in March the construction of a railway line connecting the AIFA with Pachuca, the capital of Hidalgo, will begin, starting from the year 2027. The president explained that she has tasked military engineers with completing the train in order to expedite its conclusion and enhance the functioning of the AIFA, an airport inaugurated in March 2022 by López Obrador and questioned for its remote location and military administration.
Additionally, as part of Sheinbaum's railway plan, a public investment of 150 billion pesos has been announced for 2025, aimed at the construction of three thousand kilometers of passenger trains during her term. These projects are expected to generate up to 1.5 million jobs in Mexico, contributing to the development of the country’s railway infrastructure.
Future works include the inauguration of the train from Mexico City to Querétaro in 2027, as well as the connection from Querétaro to Irapuato and from Saltillo to Nuevo Laredo. The construction of these new routes will be carried out with the participation of military engineers and private companies through public tenders, as detailed by the president.
